The Popularity of Storage Units - Summer vs. Winter

When it comes to renting storage units, there's a bit of a seasonal seesaw going on believe it or not? You’ll find that storage demand fluctuates between summer and winter as there seems to be a bit of a trend. It all comes down to weather, lifestyle, and let’s face it - how much stuff people accumulate that they really don't need but can’t seem to part with (emotional attachment, see other blogs for this). So, let’s break it down!

Summer: When Everyone’s Got Too Much Stuff (And Not Enough Closet Space all of a Sudden??)

Ah, summer! The season of long sunny afternoons, BBQs, and wait for it... overflowing storage units! During the warmer months, storage units are hotter than your cousin’s grilled chicken kebabs at a family picnic. People are moving, cleaning out, or just looking for a place to stash their stuff while they go on a beach vacation or start their “New Year, New Me” phase of life. That kayak, stand up paddle board, boogie board, snorkelling gear, crochet/knitting box, we honestly could go on with the amount of hobbies you have tried and you swore you’d be a pro at it? We at SYS have seen these items become nothing more than space fillers and dust holders Guess what we as a society do? In comes the storage unit to save the day. Silly but true.

Summer also means people are downsizing or moving for new jobs, homes, or reasons that will probably involve a lot of "stuff" they forgot they even had. Real estate moves at full speed, and whether you’re staging a home or selling a boat, there’s no shortage of temporary storage needs across the country and world. So, whether you’re storing seasonal items like camping gear or just trying to keep your house from looking like a hurricane hit it, storage units are the hero of summer.

Winter: The Time When Moving is for the Brave!

Then comes winter, and suddenly, moving your entire life into a storage unit sounds about as fun as licking a frozen flagpole. Not only is the weather discouraging, but the days are short, and your motivation to move anything heavier than a blanket or a cup of hot cocoa is pretty low. Plus have you been in a storage facility in winter? The employees have multiple layers on! For many, winter storage use takes a massive dip.

But that doesn’t mean the storage industry gets to hibernate. Businesses might need to store leftover holiday inventory, businesses who run out of units will keep coming and you’ll find a handful of people who have to be at their storage units (for fun mainly) or have had a crisis in the throws of winter, stuffing their much loved items into storage units as quickly as they can to get their lives in some order. Plus, these people with the love for a winter sport - like skis and snowboards, are doing their yearly visit to grab these “frequently” used items.

Summer Gets the Spotlight, But Winter’s Still Got Its Moon Shine.

In a nutshell, summer is the star of the storage world. People move, declutter, and hoard all sorts of things they’ll probably never use again. Winter’s a little quieter, with fewer people moving around. But don’t count out those seasonal storage needs at all! It's just that most of the world is more interested in enjoying a cup of hot chocolate than rummaging through their storage unit in the chilly facilities of a storage facility.

SYS is here to make sure no matter the season - you stop paying storage! Storage units become a long term financial pit hole. Let us for a fraction of the price - remove the storage shame you feel! No matter how cold or hot it is!
